Ball Sort Puzzle

puzzle

One color per tube

Ball Sort Puzzle gives you a row of tubes with coloured balls mixed through them. The goal is simple to say: group the colours so each tube holds a single colour. Do that and the level is done.

How you move

Drag the top ball of a tube — with the mouse, or one finger on a phone — and drop it into another tube. Only the ball on top can move, so every tube is a stack: to reach a ball near the bottom, you first have to put the ones above it somewhere.

Restarting costs nothing, so a level you have tangled up is one click from a clean start.

Why it gets harder

Early levels forgive anything. As you progress, the game adds more tubes and more balls, and that is where moving whatever is on top stops working.

Two habits that help

Two habits help. First, treat empty space as precious: an empty or nearly empty tube is the only room you have to park balls while you dig, so do not fill it with something you will need to move again. Second, finish a colour when you can: a tube that is already all one colour is out of the way for the rest of the level, which leaves fewer stacks to think about.

When you are stuck

The problem is usually a few moves back, not the move you are on. Restart and look at which tube you filled too early.

Facts on this page come from the game's own description and its GamePix page. The tips are our reading of those rules.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play Ball Sort Puzzle?
Drag the top ball of one tube into another, until every tube holds a single colour. Only the ball on top of a tube can move.
I am stuck. What should I do?
Restart — it costs nothing. The mistake is usually a few moves back: a tube filled too early, so there was no space left to park balls while digging out the one you needed.
Does it get harder?
Yes. Later levels add more tubes and more balls, so you need to plan a few moves ahead instead of moving whatever is on top.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. Drag a ball with one finger. It suits a tall screen, and there is nothing to download.
Is there a limit on retries?
No. You can restart a level as often as you like, so experimenting costs nothing.
